The Chopper with Frank Mundus

The "chopper"

SecondchoiceCharters is proud to announce that we have a new addition to our crew. John “Chopper” Ebel has been a professional fisherman since 1976, that being nearly half a century of fishing.  “chopper” got his start in the game fishing with the legendary Captain Frank Mundus  of the Cricket II in Montauk, New York. Needless to say, he learned from the best and certainly is one of thebest of a dying breed of hard core fishermen.  He has run private sportfishing yachts  all over the Bahamas, Mexico, and even once the Hemingway invitational Tournament in Cuba!  He has participated in, and won several big fish purses in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament  in Morehead City, North Carolina. He guided his private crew  in the Bimini Big Game Fishing Club Tournament as well as the Bacardi Invitational Tournament, and also the Walker’s Cay Blue marlin Tournament.

While “Chopper” was cutting his sharky teeth as a charter boat mate , and later professional fishing guide, he expanded his horizons to become a commercial man as a deck boss on Montauk tilefish boats (that’s right, cold and dangerous!). He was also a swordfish longliner a la “Perfect Storm” out of Montauk, New York and Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Check out his many yarns and exciting stories  when you sail with us. “Chopper” will keep you wide-eyed  with his fishing tales and expertise, and laughing for the entire charter.

When I started my charter business, in typical fashion many (not all) local captains put us down. Now they don’t dare because we have made our mark on Montauk fishing. . . . We’re Second Choice Charters  . . . come fish with the BEST!
